Four Fairy Wrens, a Spinebill and more..

 Every day, I walk in Lane Cove National Park and each of these days brings something new. Come with me on my daily adventures. Its amazing what we will see.

It has been raining quite a bit lately. You know, warm summer rain that brings that sticky humidity. The bush feels more like a rain forest than dessert at the moment. Probably something to with La Niña.

Anyhow, the good thing about that is that most Australians tend to stay inside the minute there is a drop of rain so I had the bush to myself today. Always a good thing when you are tracking birds. 

The Lorikeets are really enjoying the summer Banksia blooms at the moment. Trouble is, they are very noisy as they go about their business so you have to really listen and tune in to other birds.


The Fairy Wrens love to play. They are delightful to watch and never fail to make me smile.

I'm not certain of the species so if you know, feel free to drop me a line. If I find out, I'll update this post so stay tuned.






The Eastern Spinebill is much less playful and often quiet so it was a bit of a miracle that I spotted this guy at all. 

I sensed some movement in my peripheral vision. Stopped and looked for a good while then spotted this guy watching me. He never made a sound.




Chomping away on a bug, this Water Dragon was too perturbed by my presence.

  A bit of a warm one at 36 degrees but always lovely in the bush. It was a bit warm for the birds but the reptiles and mammals were loving it.  I came across a Swamp Wallaby having a munch of dinner. Curious at first, he went on unperturbed, offering me the occasional glance. It fascinates me how curious these little ones are. A Jacky Lizard watches me from his overhanging rock as I observe his curious behaviour. A wonderful specimen of Water Dragon rests on the tree catching the last of suns warmth. Albania - How On Earth Did I End Up Here?

 Albania has happened purely by circumstance.  As I have with this entire journey, I've let the universe decide on my itinerary, so when I met Lisa in Morzine, France and she asked me to come with her to Albania, of course, I said yes. This is her little stone house on top of the hill in Qeparo (pronounced Chipero). It is actually not small at all in terms of Albanian homes. At least 10 people would live here ordinarily but we have the place to ourselves. It is quite the hike to get here and not for the faint-hearted. The house sits 600 metres on the top of the hill. You can only park a little way down the hill and then navigate through tiny alleyways over cobbled paths to get here. Not too big a deal unless you are carrying heavy bags or groceries, which we have on a number of occasions.  You can't complain really because the view to the sea is stunning and worth every step and almost twisted ankle. 😂 Where is Albania anyway? Must Do Sydney Walk - Top Sydney Walk For Harbour Views

  As a local Sydneysider, I never get tired of this walk or this view. Today I was thinking how incredible this would be for a visitor to our beautiful city. It's an easy walk with loads of cafes and eateries or picnic spots along the way as well as a few must-do detours. You could do it in a couple of hours walk or even make a day of it.   What you'll need: Water bottle Opal Card Good walking shoes  Snacks or money for a coffee Start: Wynyard Station End: Circular Quay Distance: Around 7km 1.  Wynyard Exit 1 to Wynyard Park 2. City Turn right and walk down York. Just before Grosvenor, cross over York at the light, then across Clarence at the Zebra crossing. You'll come to a walkway that goes under the road. Follow is through to Kent street. Walk down Kent until you come to the Observatory Hill entrance on the right. It is well signed so just follow up the steps.  3. Observatory Hill Walk to the left of the Observatory buildings, you'll see Barrangaroo and Crown Casino
